Pasadena Tree Service Area
Pasadena is home ground, from the oaks and sycamores along the Arroyo Seco to the foothill streets under the San Gabriel Mountains. Altadena, next door, has a page of its own because Los Angeles County's rules apply there.
Pasadena, block by block
Inside the city limits one rulebook applies: Chapter 8.52 of the Pasadena Municipal Code for private trees, and City crews only for street trees. What changes across town is the tree. West of the Arroyo and along it, native coast live oaks and California sycamores are common, and both are protected once the trunk passes 8 inches. Older streets carry tall palms and big street trees in the parkway, which are the City's (see Pasadena street trees). Hillside and foothill lots in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones get Pasadena Fire's spring brush clearance inspection.

Sycamores and oaks along the Arroyo are also where the shot hole borer turned up: the City removed 65 infested sycamores there in 2015. For oaks anywhere in town, oak tree trimming needs a light hand.
